Weekend with Gardner
One of our teacher friends fled for the exciting life of graduate school at the end of last year. He came back to visit us during the fall long weekend break. We had a great time over the past four days. Spent some time in Madison, Milwaukee, and of course Beaver Dam. Went and saw "The Departed." It was pretty good. Since I haven't seen a movie in a while I'm not sure if I liked it because it was good or I liked it because I haven't seen a movie in a while. I think it's more of the former than the later. Milwaukee was fun too. This makes two weekends in a row that I've hung out there. After exploring some of the cool downtown places, we headed a bit north to check out a few more places. One area reminded me a little of Ypsi (Ypsilanti, Mi).
Back Log
This past summer I traveled to Japan and South Korea. I took a lot of pictures, and I put a few of them on the web here along with some breif explainations.
It was my first time traveling to Asia, and I had a really great trip. Those of you who know me, know that I don't do well with heat. So, with that being said, I was not looking forward to traveling to Asia during the hot (and rainy) season. Mostly it was not too bad. I did survive. I think the worst was the first week when I was in Japan, and it was hot and humid, with no breeze what so ever. Once I got to Korea the heat and humidity were a bit better. Not a lot though, I still sweat my butt off.
My trip started out in Yokohama, Japan. This is because I felt that I wanted to be able to do Tokyo without jet lag, and so that I could visit one of my students. [And let me tell you, the jet lag from a 14 hour flight is pretty bad. It took me about seven days to fully adjust.] I stayed at a ryokan, a traditional Japanese guest house. This was a great experience. Including not being able to communicate with the staff, and not finding any house slippers to fit. The picture to the right is basically what my room looked like. The room also had a bed roll to sleep on the floor.
From Yokohama, I went on to Osaka, and Fukuoka, where I took the jet ferry to Busan, South Korea.
More to come later...
